Sublimation Tumblers

Sublimation Tumblers

Sublimation tumblers are an excellent choice to make a tumbler at home because the result is high-quality, lasting, durable, and can be as precise as a photo! You can transform a plain sublimation tumbler into a stunning project or a gift that everyone will love. You can even design your designs!

What Is A Sublimation Tumbler?

A sublimation tumbler is a stainless steel or Tumbler constructed from a different material “printed” by a method of ink transfer referred to as sublimation. Sublimation is a chemical procedure that converts a solid to a state of gas, removing any liquid component. Sublimation printing uses “solid” printing inks incorporated in a polyester substrate, heating it directly to the state of the gas.

What you get is top quality, durable, and peel-proof design that will become an integral part of your Tumbler’s material. In addition, it produces a professional-looking end product that will make people think you bought it! Sublimation tumblers are perfect for giving away as gifts or even for small-scale businesses.

Can I Use Any Tumbler For Sublimation?

No. tumblers used for sublimation should contain a coating of polyester, which binds to the Ink used for sublimation when heated. This means that empty tumblers for sublimation are pretty expensive and difficult to find. You won’t be able to find a tumbler at the local dollar store as you would for other DIY techniques. The result is well worth the effort!

Choosing A Right Tumbler For Easy Sublimation

Choosing A Right Tumbler For Easy Sublimation

There are many kinds of tumblers available on the market. They are made of various types of materials, shapes, and shapes. But you can’t alter any type of Tumbler. To ensure long-lasting and high-quality results, it is essential to use a tumbler with a special poly coating to withstand heat when heating using an electronic mug press. For beginners, it is recommended to stick with tumblers that have tapered walls rather than tumblers with straight walls, as tapered tumblers aren’t easy to handle. Straight walls tumblers are simpler to use and offer a more accessible and more consistent press.

Things You’ll Need To Make Sublimate Tumbler

  • Blank Sublimation Tumbler
  • Sublimation Ink
  • Cricut Infusible Transfer Sheets (work best when used with the use of an electronic cutter)
  • Infusible Ink Pens (no cutting machine required!)
  • Artesprix Sublimation Markers
  • Sublimation inks for printers (I like and have had good results with this particular brand. If you already own a printer, you can purchase bottles that fit the printer you have.)
  • Pre-Printed Sublimation Transfers
  • A Craft Oven (like an oven that is a countertop oven you’ll only use for crafting)
  • Laser Paper or Sublimation Paper for all methods, excluding infusible transfer sheets for Ink
  • Butcher Paper
  • Heat Resistant Tape
  • Heat Source
  • Cricut Mug Press
  • Tumbler Heat Press
  • If you’re using an oven, you’ll need Sublimation Shrink Wraps to accommodate the size of the Tumbler that you are creating.

Where Can I Buy Blanks For Sublimation Tumblers?

Unlike the sublimation mugs, which can be found in craft stores, the cheapest sublimation templates are somewhat challenging to locate. I typically purchase them through Amazon since I can purchase just handfuls at a go. There is a wide range of products, and they are shipped using Amazon Prime. The prices are slightly higher priced than other options, however.

These are my absolute favorite blank tumblers that  you can place orders for:

  • White white Tumbler
  • Color changing when heated
  • Glitter (I’ve seen them in aqua, silver, and pink)
  • Color-changing UV light

There are many other places where you can purchase blank tumblers, but they are usually large sets. Bulk is an excellent option if you want to include them in your small-scale company, but not for amateur crafters. Coastal Business Supplies and Stainless Steel Depot are beautiful places to begin.

How To Create A Sublimation Tumbler

The first thing you’ll need to take is the transfer method you’d like to employ. The basic options are:

  • I haven’t used infusible ink Pens & Markers (or Artesprix Markers). They can be used inside the pen holders of your Cricut machine or on your own.
  • Sublimation Transfer that prints using an inkjet printer converted to sublimation.
  • Pre-Printed Sublimation Transfers purchased from Etsy or another retailer.

Once you’ve determined which approach you’d like to follow, take a look below!

Sublimation Tumbler Designs

While you can purchase sublimation prints, I’d prefer to create my own. If you’re searching for designs to image using sublimation, the most appealing thing is that you can choose nearly every style! If you have a converted inkjet printer, it is possible to print photos or graphics and any other typically published item. For example, suppose you’re using an electronic cutter to cut sheets of transfer paper and sheets. In that case, an SVG file works best in Cricut Design Space, and it is possible to use a DXF file that is compatible with the no-cost version that is part of Silhouette Studio.

Here are some excellent resources that provide Sublimation Designs:

  • Creative Fabrica
  • Design Bundles

To create the Tumbler that you can print out, I suggest you use Adobe Photoshop. It is the most efficient color conversion for printers with sublimation.

Sublimation Tumbler, With Infusible Ink

If you already have a Cricut, the Infusible ink transfer sheets are an excellent introduction to sublimation. You can select the design you want to use within Cricut Design Space and cut it like you would iron vinyl. The process of weeding may be somewhat different. However, it’s simple to master.

The second step to making the DIY Tumbler involves heating the design until it is incorporated into the coating of the cup! There are three options to use for this: ovens, tumbler presses or mugs, or, perhaps, using your Cricut Mug Press!

Create A Sublimation Tumbler Using A Tumbler Heat Press

There is a tumbler Heat Press on Amazon. The heat press is ideal when you have space to do it and would want to create a large number of cups that are sublimated. The drawback is that they are expensive, and you might need more attachments for various sizes of mugs and tumblers. However, you’ll have greater satisfaction when you design tumblers.

There are commercial-sized heat presses that are specially designed to fit tumblers. They can stand on their own or an attachment that can be used with a tumbler for larger presses.
